About The Position

Commonpoint is seeking a Gymnastics Coach for its Health & Wellness Department. This department focuses on providing opportunities for children, youth, and families to develop healthy habits, physical fitness, confidence, teamwork, and positive life skills through recreational and sports programming. The Gymnastics Coach will be responsible for delivering hands-on gymnastics instruction and creating engaging lesson plans for participants aged 4-18. The goal is to help participants improve their tumbling, balancing, coordination, flexibility, and overall fitness skills. The Coach will foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment, adhering to the philosophy and fair-access principles of Commonpoint's Youth Sports Programs. This role reports to the Senior Director of Health & Wellness. As a seasonal and part-time staff member, the Coach will support daily operations, program delivery, and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated gymnastics background and knowledge of fundamental gymnastics techniques.
  • Previous experience coaching, teaching, or working with children and/or youth.
  • Ability to develop and implement age- and skill-appropriate gymnastics activities and lesson plans.
  • Ability to effectively supervise children and maintain a safe program environment.
  • Strong verbal, listening, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of participants, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, prioritize responsibilities, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and trustworthiness.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe playing environment.
  • Ability to safely assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience coaching gymnastics or tumbling to children ages 4–18.
  • Experience developing gymnastics lesson plans.
  • Experience working in a youth sports, recreation, camp, school, or community-based program.
  • Previous experience in a Commonpoint role is a plus.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on gymnastics coaching and instruction to participants ages 4–18 with varying skill levels and abilities.
  • Plan and implement engaging gymnastics lessons that include comprehensive warm-ups, movement games, floor exercises, tumbling activities, and balance exercises.
  • Assess participants' skills and abilities and provide instruction appropriate to their individual developmental and skill levels.
  • Support participants in developing strength, coordination, flexibility, balance, body awareness, and overall fitness.
  • Teach foundational gymnastics techniques and promote safe and appropriate use of tumbling and gymnastics equipment.
  • Incorporate opportunities to develop positive life skills, confidence, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and character.
  • Maintain active supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants under the care of the Youth Sports Program.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that provides fair opportunities for all participants.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, administration, and other program staff regarding participant progress, needs, and program activities.
  • Organize, inspect, set up, and break down gymnastics equipment and maintain an orderly and safe program space.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the gymnasium and playing areas.
  • Monitor equipment and report maintenance, safety, or supply concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adjust lesson plans or coaching approaches based on participant needs and program requirements.
  • Represent Commonpoint positively and professionally at all times.
  • Take initiative, prioritize responsibilities, and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Health & Wellness.
