About The Position

Reporting to the Health Services Manager and under the direction of the interprofessional team, the Recreation Therapy Associate is a member of the health care team who supports clients and families through recreation interventions to promote holistic client functioning. The role contributes to the assessment, evidence-informed intervention, planning, and evaluation of recreation therapy services. The associate provides individual or group interventions in inpatient, outpatient, or community settings, addressing clients’ leisure needs and overall plans of care. Practice must adhere to applicable practice standards and scope of employment.

Requirements

Post-secondary diploma with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution, or a diploma.
Current BLS-C Certification.
Experience working with individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities.
Ability to work effectively within a team or with other healthcare professionals.
Effective listening and communication skills, and ability to motivate patients or veterans.
Adaptability and flexibility to changing patient populations or worksites.
Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Ability to understand medical terminology used in a clinical area and use it in documentation.

Nice To Haves

Competencies in other languages; French preferred.
