About The Position

Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Supervisor assists in the delivery of programs for community members. This includes coordinating the day-to-day youth activities and ensuring facilities are well maintained. As an advocate for healthy families and communities, the Recreation Supervisor possesses solid communication skills and is a results-oriented individual who takes a pro-active approach to initiating and following through with a variety of recreation projects.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 months to 1-year of recreation or coordination experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software at an intermediate/advanced level.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, very good judgment, and strong initiative.
  • Ability to multi-task, to identify priorities, be creative and maintain a detailed work plan.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
  • Operates as part of a team and is flexible about the boundaries and functions of the job.
  • Maintains professionalism in all circumstances.
  • Recognizes and respects all cultural diversity and understands Indigenous culture.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the implementation of after-school and right to play programs for children and youth.
  • Encourages participants and parents to take the initiative to stay active in the after-school program so they can carry forward positive behaviors.
  • Consults with social workers, other professionals, and families when appropriate.
  • Ensures a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for children and youth providing age-appropriate activities with adaptations as needed.
  • Promotes behavioral change and personal growth of children and youth who are having difficulties coping because of social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays.
  • Provides life skills and training as per goals set out by the youth.
  • Supports youth to achieve their established goals using a strength-based approach.
  • Works within the youth’s community to utilize local resources and programs.
  • Maintains awareness of community resources and gaps, as well as the socio-economic and geographical make-up of the community.
  • Assists the Manager with special projects, activities, events, and fundraising.
  • Participates in field trips designed to incorporate education.
  • Prepares and submits regular activity reports to appropriate agencies such as Knucwentwecw Society, Three Corners Health Services Society and Right to Play Society in the absence of the Recreation Manager.
  • Schedules staff to ensure adequate coverage for all activities in the absence of the Recreation Manager.
  • Ensures traditional Indigenous and cultural approaches are incorporated into community recreation services and activities.
  • Records statistics and evaluate programs and activities at the end of each month.
  • Assists in researching funding for programs and activities.
  • Records daily attendance log, statistics and evaluates programs and activities at the end of each month.
  • Participates in various community support and committee meetings.
  • Assist with financial reporting and credit card reconciling when needed.
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
  • Contributes to the WLFN’s ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
