About The Position

The Recreation Supervisor at the Inland Empire Job Corps Center in San Bernardino, CA, is responsible for managing comprehensive recreation programs, student leadership initiatives, and incentive programs, ensuring full compliance with government and management directives. This role involves overseeing administrative and student activities, evaluating staff performance, providing training, and recommending departmental and personnel changes. Key duties include developing and monitoring budgets, assisting in policy implementation, auditing for contractual compliance, and preparing reports. The supervisor will also develop and distribute recreational plans, create physical fitness, leadership, and social activities for student development, manage staff shift schedules for seven-day-a-week coverage, and establish community linkages for recreational opportunities. Additionally, the position requires overseeing recreational facilities, ensuring health standards, coordinating with other center staff, providing management to recreation staff, logging activities in the MTC Student App, promoting career development services, maintaining a safe work environment, and delivering quality customer service. The supervisor will also participate in student employability programs, enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy, and promote Career Success Standards through modeling and mentoring.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree and two years related experience, one of which should be in a supervisory capacity.
  • Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements.
  • Experience in initiating, implementing and organizing activities for youth.
  • Experience with youth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and student activities services of the department.
  • Evaluate staff performance, provide staff training, recommend and implement department and personnel changes as approved by the director, career success and coordinate with human resources prior to implementation.
  • Develop departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures; review and recommend changes to budget authorization.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting recreation.
  • Review and audit all assigned areas regularly for contractual compliance and effectiveness of delivery of services to students.
  • Prepare related reports.
  • Develop and distribute weekly, monthly and annual recreational plans and schedules of activities.
  • Develop physical fitness, recreational, student leadership and social activities to comply with and support overall goals for student development.
  • Develop and maintain personnel shift schedules for programmatic coverage seven days a week.
  • Establish and maintain linkages with community resources providing recreational opportunities for students.
  • Oversee operation of all recreational facilities and programs; ensure proper health and sanitation standards are maintained.
  • Coordinate with other center staff pertaining to recreation and social activities.
  • Provide management to recreation staff performing technical functions in organizing, conducting and supervising physical, recreational, student leadership and social activities.
  • Log responsible activities into the MTC Student App and ensure timely responses to student requests to register.
  • Ensure the career development services system is supported and promoted within the department.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers.
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
