THIS POSTING IS FOR TWO SEPARATE RECREATION SUPERVISOR POSITIONS: RECREATION SUPERVISOR – COMMUNITY RECREATION AND RECREATION SUPERVISOR – ADMINISTRATION, AQUATICS, AND OUTDOOR RECREATION. The Recreation Supervisor - Community Recreation reports to the Parks & Recreation Manager. This position will oversee the McQueen Park Activity Center, Gilbert Community Center (Adaptive and Senior programming), Southeast Regional Library, Perry Library, and the Riparian Preserve. The Recreation Supervisor - Administration, Aquatics, and Outdoor Recreation reports to the Parks & Recreation Business Manager. This position will oversee Administrative Operations, Aquatics Programming, and Outdoor Recreation Programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Business Management, or related coursework.
  • Three years of experience supervising recreation facilities, and/or recreation programs, staff, and resources.
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Developing marketing and promotional campaigns
  • Risk and Safety Management
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • ActiveNet registration software or equivalent software tool used to record and track registration activities
  • Skilled in relationship-building, interpersonal skills, project management, process improvement, change leadership, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and coach, train, motivate, and influence.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, promote, and foster positive working relationships with outside community groups and organizations to successfully schedule, utilize, and promote recreation facilities.
  • Develop all programming, scheduling/booking, and contractor integration of the recreation programming locations.
  • Manage the department’s use of its recreation software (currently ActiveNet), and act as the department’s liaison between ActiveNet and the department to ensure system updates are communicated throughout the department.
  • Manage assigned facilities and assets; review and approve requests to address equipment and facility maintenance needs and repairs, both existing and new; coordinate maintenance and repair as needed; work cooperatively with other departments to schedule building repairs; prepare and/or approve quotes for service.
  • Meet with the attorney on facility/program legal issues, projects, and sensitive situations involving facility patrons and program participants.
  • Work closely with the police department, park ranger team, and facility workgroup to address issues of disorderly conduct, assaults, theft, vandalism, etc., within facility locations.
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise, guide, and evaluate full-time division staff; process and approve employee payroll and contract employee payroll; exercise conflict resolution, listening, and communication skills to process employee concerns and problems, direct the work of others, counsel, discipline, and conduct performance reviews.
