About The Position

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is seeking an innovative and passionate Recreation Specialist to join their team. This role will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing programs and services for diverse communities, including youth and teens, adults, and seniors at the Albemarle Road Recreation Center. Specific program areas may encompass athletics, arts and crafts, social events, and health and wellness. The position will also be involved in activity programming for summer camps and other day camps throughout the school year. Additionally, the specialist will focus on creating positive community relationships and partnerships. Experience in community-based sports and recreation environments is desired. This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule that includes mornings/daytime, evenings, and weekends on a rotating basis. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Health and Physical Education, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges.
  • Ability to obtain (within one year of hire) and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in various areas of recreation programming (e.g., Athletics, Summer Camp, Fitness, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in a variety of individual and team sports.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and evaluate programs and activities in a recreation center or park facility.
  • Provide customer service and handle funds in a recreation center or park facility via telephone, email, website, social media, and walk-in patrons for information, program registration, center daily use, and rentals.
  • Ensure the safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary.
  • Enforce rules and regulations.
  • Collect fees and take registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals.
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas.
  • Referee at various sports activities.
  • Provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper, or line-person at games.
  • Supervise children involved in after-school, summer, or other recreational programs.
  • Handle inquiries and complaints from the public.
  • Drive a county vehicle to transport participants or commute to a different location (for some programs).
  • Assist with department events and field trips.
  • May serve as the manager on duty if the Facility Manager is not available.
