About The Position

The Recreation Specialist organizes and directs trainees in leisure-time recreation/non-vocational activities and leadership programs. This role involves assisting with center-sponsored trips and events, potentially driving students. The specialist will also support Water Safety programming, including videos, swimming certifications, and swim lessons, as well as CIS documentation if applicable. Instruction may be provided in various recreational clubs such as sports, poetry, drama, talent shows, and creative activities like arts and crafts. A key aspect of the role is mentoring students in the Recreation Aide Program to help establish life skills. The position ensures all programs comply with DOL requirements.

Requirements

  • Associates of Arts degree or one (1) year of related experience working with youth.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule to include weekends, holidays and/or nights.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in center-sponsored trips and events including escorting and chaperoning.
  • May drive students on trips/events.
  • Assists with Water Safety programming (videos, swimming certification and swim lessons) and CIS documentation- if applicable.
  • May provide instructions to trainees in various recreational clubs such as sports, poetry, drama, talent shows, etc., and other creative activities, such as arts and crafts.
  • Mentor students in Recreation Aide Program to help establish life skills.
  • Ensures that all programs comply with DOL requirements.
