About The Position

The Recreation Specialist – Senior Center provides outstanding customer service and general support to the staff and patrons of the Eden Prairie Senior Center and other recreation facilities across the division as needed. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are: Provides leadership to a variety of special recreation projects across the division. Provides excellent customer service and resources to the public by creating a welcoming environment and being a primary point of contact for the Senior Center. Provides work direction to part-time staff. Represents the Senior Center in meetings and public gatherings. Oversees the daily operations in the absence of the Recreation Supervisor – Senior Center. Maintains current Senior Center and other Recreation facility content in RecTrac and on the website. Provides administrative support to the Recreation Supervisor – Senior Center by maintaining accurate database records, financial record keeping, preparing daily deposits, program processing, coordinating the Senior Center event calendar and facilitating building rental agreements for rental groups. Assists the Recreation Supervisor – Senior Center in the development and advertising of Senior Center programs and events by creating flyers documents and newsletters using Canva. Collaborates with all Recreation staff to organize community-wide events. Serves as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Park and Recreation department by maintaining the volunteer database and communicating with Recreation Supervisors of need and availability for volunteers at city programs and events. Serves as the Sponsorship Coordinator for the Park and Recreation department by assisting with the development and distribution of an annual sponsorship brochure and maintaining accurate sponsorship records. Communicates across the department to ensure appropriate recognition of sponsors. While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
  • A minimum of three years of customer service/administrative experience is required or an associate’s degree or a higher degree in a Parks and Recreation field with at least one year of general customer service/administrative experience is required.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Advanced word processing and composition skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
  • Physical effort is light for the majority of work with lifting or carrying limited to 25 pounds intermittently.
  • Report preparation and writing at times requires extended use of a keyboard.
  • Most work is performed in a normal office environment.
  • Occasionally drives to pick up food or office supplies, or to attend off-site meetings.
  • Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment.
  • Pre-employment processes for this position include professional reference checks, background check, driver’s license check (must maintain valid driver’s license and excellent driving record) and work history verification.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or a higher degree in Parks and Recreation or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong basic accounting skills (reconciliations, daily deposits, and financial transactions) are preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certifications are preferred and required within the first year of employment.
  • Experience working in Canva is preferred.
  • Experience with RecTrac or other registration or scheduling software is preferred.
