About The Position

Responsible for the daily operations and customer service responsibilities for recreation services and facilities. Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Park and Recreation Administration or closely related field and/or training in Parks and Recreation management.
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to perform basic budget management.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to become certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must pass a background security check.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes customers and answers phones and emails.
  • Sells memberships and daily admissions.
  • Registers participants for programs and events.
  • Reserves rentable spaces for patrons.
  • Executes facility policies and procedures.
  • Performs basic bookkeeping, filing, and clerical duties.
  • Performs opening and closing duties for the facility depending on shifts.
  • Assists with staff trainings and development.
  • Supervises part time recreation workers at the reception desk.
  • Implements emergency action plans when necessary.
  • Ensures the reception area is tidy.
  • Assists in ensuring the facility surrounding grounds remains a safe, clean environment for the public to utilize for recreational activities.
  • Performs a wide variety of other duties as assigned.
  • Fosters cooperation and teamwork among city recreation and non-recreation personnel.
  • Provides exceptional customer service and communication to members and the public.
  • Distributes department marketing materials to the public.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of recreation programs, areas, facilities, and services.
  • Participates in the development of the recreation budget and monitors the expenditure of department funds and record-keeping.
