About The Position

This position supervises and participates in activities at a community or recreation center or playground. The role involves directing activities, providing input on city-wide recreation programs, attending parent meetings, and assisting with scheduling and organizing various recreational functions. The supervisor will also be responsible for collecting monies, maintaining records, setting up and taking down apparatus, preparing exhibits, recommending supply purchases, assisting patrons, maintaining order, inspecting areas for repairs, operating sound/video/lighting equipment, resolving public inquiries, instructing in recreational activities, inventorying equipment, soliciting sponsorships, coordinating field trips, and creating advertising materials.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or in a course of study related to the occupational field. Experience may substitute on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience relevant to the major duties/essential functions of the position. Part-time experience will be prorated.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated with an acceptable driving record.
  • DCF 40-hour Childcare Facility Training Requirement started within first 90 days of employment and must be completed one (1) year from the date the training began.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Applicant must be able to work at various locations and varying shifts, holidays, weekends, and evening hours.
  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computers, computer software, calculator, copiers, and fax machine.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.
  • Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies.
  • Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach.
  • Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains records of revenues and receipts.
  • Resolves complaints and inquiries from the public.
  • Instructs in various recreational activities.
  • Inventories and maintains equipment and supplies.
  • Solicits and collects sponsorships for athletic programming.
  • Coordinates and supervises field trips.
  • Creates advertising materials, including flyers, posters, and postcards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
