Plans, coordinates, implements, and supervises a variety of recreational, athletic, nature, and other recreational programming and activities for the City. This role involves planning, coordinating, teaching, and supervising diverse recreational and leisure time activities for community members. The work requires significant planning and scheduling of activities, along with interaction with participants and officiating personnel. Employees are responsible for adapting existing programs to meet community needs, recruiting staff and participants, publicizing activities, coordinating with center staff, and overseeing program implementation. Additionally, employees manage equipment and supply orders and ensure the safety of assigned grounds, buildings, and facilities. Specialization in program areas such as recreation, athletics, or nature programming is expected. The role operates under departmental rules and policies, requiring judgment in program interpretation, game rules, and procedures. Employees may be exposed to hazards in parks and recreation, including indoor/outdoor environments, extreme temperatures, noise, and potentially human body fluids, with work covered by OSHA bloodborne pathogen requirements. The position reports to the Parks and Recreation Director and is evaluated based on program effectiveness, observation, and public feedback.
