The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Recreation Program Coordinator for our Parks and Recreation Department. This position will be based at the Shearwater Community Center & Park. Until the facility opens, this role will serve in a floating capacity, supporting recreation programming across multiple parks and facilities throughout the County. St. Johns County Parks and Recreation provides safe, fun, and healthy opportunities for residents and visitors through a diverse system of parks, community centers, and recreational programs. The Recreation Program Coordinator will assist with the planning, coordination, and delivery of community recreation programming, including afterschool programs, summer camps, special events, and youth and family activities. This position will work collaboratively with staff across multiple sites to ensure consistent, high-quality programming and strong community engagement. This position requires a flexible schedule, including regular evening and weekend hours, and is ideal for candidates who thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy working with youth and families, and can effectively manage multiple programs and events. The Recreation Program Coordinator will assist with the planning, coordination, and delivery of community recreation programming, including afterschool programs, summer camps, special events, and youth and family activities. This role will work closely with staff at both locations to ensure consistent, high-quality programming and meaningful community engagement, particularly in rural and growing areas of the County. This position requires a flexible schedule, including regular evening and weekend hours, and is ideal for candidates who enjoy working with youth and families while managing multiple programs and events in a community-focused environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of verifiable experience in facility management or event planning.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the operations of Recreation facility and community events.
  • Ensures facility availability for regular operations and special events.
  • Assists with the maintenance and proper use of assigned recreational facilities.
  • Physically inspects facility and related structures.
  • Reports and/or schedules maintenance as needed.
  • May perform custodial duties to ensure proper service level of facility, including cleaning and restocking restrooms, trash removal, etc.
  • May perform light carpentry duties.
  • Maintains proper customer records to include the collection and certification of applications, waivers and related documents.
  • Coordinates, monitors, trains and assigns work for designated department staff.
  • Assists with preliminary evaluations of subordinates.
  • Collects and verifies time sheets.
  • Assists with the facilitation of conflict resolution or other disciplinary issues between participants, guardians/parents and staff.
  • Directs participants in the proper usage of County facilities.
  • Assists with the administrative function of the Parks and Recreation Facility Operations (may include but is not limited to accounts payable/receivable, budget preparation, bank deposits, sales and other required reporting).
  • Coordinates the provision of information and referral services regarding the County Recreation Programs and Facilities.
  • Supports department-wide initiatives, including but not limited to fundraising activities and campaigns; developing informational and educational materials; membership and participant drives; and other special events.
  • Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
  • Maintains assigned rotating shift schedule to attend to planned activities and events. This includes working a variety of mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
