About The Position

Responsible for assisting Parks and Recreation customers with registration and inquiries, monitoring activities, and assisting other Parks and Recreation facilities in a friendly and professional manner. This role involves performing front-desk operations, monitoring facility rentals, setting up and taking down equipment for special events, recording attendance, providing care and protection for patrons including emergency response and first aid, maintaining a clean and orderly environment, enforcing rules and safety precautions, assisting with events, and potentially transporting passengers. The position also requires participation in staff meetings and required training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must have or obtain Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification within a designated timeframe or within thirty (30) days of employment (online training is not valid)
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws regarding parks and recreation, as well as City of Denton policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of leisure, social, health, and legal needs of individuals with and without disabilities at all age levels.
  • Knowledge of CPR/AED first aid procedures.
  • Skill in problem-solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Skill at the beginner level, working with Microsoft Office 365, and other software systems to complete work.
  • Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations with accuracy.
  • Skill in operating 10-key adding machines, cash registers, and balancing cash drawers.
  • Ability to work independently to manage multiple work tasks while balancing competing priorities with attention to detail and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state-required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state-required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
  • If for Preschool positions, must be able to pass FBI fingerprinting and background check as required by TXDFPS childcare licensing.
  • Must complete required 24-30 hours of DFPS training.
  • Must meet the Texas Department of Family and Protective Service (TXDFPS) Minimum Standards of Care for Child-Care Centers within 12 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform front-desk operations, including greeting customers, addressing customer questions and concerns, providing phone, electronic, and face-to-face support, and directing customers.
  • Register participants for programs and explain various activity options.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and/or reports, and perform cash handling responsibilities.
  • Escalate issues to supervisor as appropriate.
  • Monitor facility rentals, set up and take down equipment for special events, and report any damages or defaults in contracts.
  • Record hourly facility and class attendance.
  • Provide care and protection for patrons, including responding immediately to emergencies and administering first aid as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment for patrons, ensuring equipment and materials are accessible, appropriate, and in good condition for child use.
  • Monitor facility during free play and classes, and assist in the enforcement of department, site, and program rules, regulations, and safety precautions.
  • Assist with birthday parties, programs, and special events as needed.
  • Transport passengers and/or chaperones on a van or passenger bus for trips.
  • Participate in staff meetings and annual training required by the department and by the State of Texas.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques, including lifting and climbing, and operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
