About The Position

Under general supervision, performs recreational work in coordinating, supervising and administering a variety of recreation programs for the Town's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. Is responsible for organized league sports, classes and programs or special events, as assigned; provides on-site supervision for program implementation. Reports to a Recreation Coordinator or department designee. This advertisement represents two separate opportunities: Recreation Leader (Recreation Programs) and Recreation Leader (Fitness Programs). Candidates are requested to specify their preference within the supplemental questions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited High School or GED.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in governmental, non-profit or voluntary recreation programs; or one (1) year of experience in governmental, non-profit or voluntary recreation programs supplemented by college-level course work in recreational programming or a related field.
  • Must possess a valid Class "E" State of Florida driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative duties such as creating and updating mailing lists, letters, forms, spreadsheets, reports and contracts.
  • Prepares materials and corresponds with vendors, contractors and public concerning various programs and events.
  • Supervises daily financial procedures and maintenance, maintains accurate records pertaining to revenue, inventory, program evaluations, and attendance.
  • Collects and accounts for all fees for various program and event registration and division programs.
  • Oversees and manages contract services and vendors.
  • Takes physical inventory of equipment and supplies; makes recommendations for purchases.
  • Makes authorized purchases with Recreation Coordinator approval.
  • Answers phone, types correspondence, runs errands, picks up supplies, helps set up facilities.
  • Assists the public at a counter giving information regarding departmental operations, programs and events.
  • Handles telephone inquiries and correspondence; assists with rules and regulation enforcement.
  • Trouble shoots issues and problems using professional knowledge and applying policies, procedures and philosophies of the division and department.
  • Represents the Town at various events and meetings.
  • Oversees, plans, and manages diverse municipal recreation programs and community events, including organizing summer day camps, aquatics instruction, fitness classes, and specialized activities for youth, adults, and seniors.
  • Oversees the complete registration process for all programs and memberships, ensuring accurate collection and accounting of fees.
  • Schedules field trips and meetings; prepares meeting room permits.
  • Supervises and participates in sign up for Red Cross surplus food give out and distributes food monthly.
  • Receives inquiries and provides information pertaining to classes, day camp, park rental, room rental and department programs and events.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
