About The Position

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Program Specialist or Recreation Leader 2, this seasonal position helps conduct indoor and/or outdoor activities ensuring activities are safe, proper and appropriate. This position also is responsible for helping to maintain equipment and grounds.

Requirements

  • Minimum of sixteen (16) years of age.
  • A combination of experience and training that provides the candidate with the knowledge and skills to perform the job will be considered.
  • Knowledge of general rules, regulations, practices, and terminology of recreation activities.
  • Knowledge of requirements of maintaining facilities and grounds in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
  • Knowledge of oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience, courtesy and respect.
  • Skill in helping lead a variety of youth recreational activities.
  • Skill in analyzing situations accurately and adopting an effective course of action.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting, applying and explaining rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Skill in maintaining current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions.
  • Skill in establishing rapport and maintaining cooperative working relationships with user populations, parents and staff.
  • Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to obtain valid adult and child CPR and First Aid Certificates within thirty (30) days of hire.

  • Interest in community recreation and/or education programs preferred.
  • Valid adult and child CPR and First Aid Certificates preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help lead indoor and/or outdoor recreational activities including special events, playground activities and camps.
  • Assist participants in appropriate recreational activities (i.e. arts and crafts, field trips, sports) and a variety of recreational activities and educational programs.
  • Maintain a variety of records and help write periodic reports.
  • Maintain program equipment in good working order.
  • Ensure facility and grounds are kept neat, clean and litter free.
  • Perform custodial and light maintenance duties.
  • Provide information to the public concerning recreation programs, policies, regulations and schedules; answer participant inquiries in person and over the telephone.
  • Render routine First Aid in case of minor injury and administer CPR as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
