About The Position

Douglas County is seeking an outgoing team player with a positive attitude and strong customer service skills to fill the vacancy for a Recreation Leader Senior with the Kahle Community Center pre-school program. Working with children ages 3-6, this position serves as a pre-school teacher working closely with the pre-school director to develop and implement learning plans while providing a safe and nurturing learning environment. This position is a great fit for someone with the experience, skills, and adaptability to successfully meet the demands and challenges of the role, and the flexibility to meet the needs of the various programs, schedules, and special events the Kahle Community Center provides. This position does not qualify for health benefits.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience leading recreational activities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogen, CPR, and AED certification within six (6) months of date of employment

Responsibilities

  • Performs intermediate work maintaining front counter operations at Community Center; leading and overseeing a variety of recreation and activity programs at designated recreation/senior services/adult day club facility or on trips; or serving as a pre-school teacher for children 3-6 years of age; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and conduct of recreation programs and activities, including direct supervision and guidance of youth, senior and adult daycare participants.
  • Prepares lesson plans and leads games and craft activities; works as primary contact at camps, during off-site trips, and as support service provider at adult daycare.
  • Welcomes visitors and answers incoming telephone calls; provides information regarding activity schedules and registration requirements; processes customer registrations and inputs information into department computer system; processes customers for facility passes and photo ID's; receives funds and issues receipts; administers concession sales.
  • Leads, coordinates and supervises activities and programs; assists in development of promotional brochures/flyers; provides lead direction, training and work review to assigned staff and volunteers; organizes and assigns work, sets priorities, and follows-up to ensure coordination and completion of assigned work; ensures that proper safety precautions are observed; instructs others in proper work procedures.
  • Responsible for financial transactions; deposits funds; audits transactions; ensures security of cash and financial receipts.
  • Performs general building maintenance and custodial upkeep ensuring cleanliness of building, including restrooms; cleans up spills and unsanitary conditions when they occur; sets up and takes down meeting rooms, including the folding and un-folding of tables; inspects and repairs equipment as necessary; operates audiovisual equipment as needed.
  • Performs inspections of facility to ensure participant and customer safety and maintains a clean and organized recreational area; monitors all building participants during facility hours of operation to ensure orderly conduct.
  • Maintains records of programs and activities including, but not limited to, rosters, daily roll sheets/attendance records, timecards, emergency contacts, disciplinary action, incident and accident reports, ensures up-to-date and accurate contact list for parents and/or legal guardians and ensures that participants are picked up in accordance with authorizations on file.
  • Uses County vehicle to perform various tasks related to job duties.
  • Periodically transports program participants and other staff in a county vehicle for off-site activities; Monitors trip petty cash and activities of youth during recreational trips or tours; disciplines youth participants according to established policies and procedures, as necessary.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
  • Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Works closely with the Pre-school director to implement plans for special needs children; monitors the programs and ensures positive participation and behavior.
  • Provides a safe and nurturing learning environment for young children between the ages of 3-6 years; develops and maintains a learning environment conducive to growth in the areas of physical, cognitive, and social disciplines; records observations, implements assessments, sets goals for individual children, and prepares group lesson plans and activities accordingly.
  • Demonstrates the ability to positively interact with children; communicates verbally and in writing with children and their parents/legal guardians.
  • Recognizes health and safety hazards and protects children from harm; encourages and provides children with a variety of opportunities for learning and for social experiences; adapts and responds to changing and challenging conditions in ways that enhance program quality.
  • Leads clients in adult recreational activities (i.e. chair or laughter yoga, stretching, board games, brain health stimulation exercises, arts & craft projects, woodworking, music therapy or similar activities), with the ability to adapt based on the client's individualized needs and cognitive and physical function and/or limitations.
  • Re-direct clients while engaging in activities.
  • Determines programming levels of all clients, adapting as needed based on behaviors and participation.
  • Maintains a safe and nurturing environment for adults with special needs.
  • Provides assistance with activities of daily living skills to clients, which can include feeding assistance, toileting, ambulation, hygiene care, and behavior redirection.
  • Communicates clearly with other staff and volunteers regarding activity program and client needs.
  • Provides daily records by documenting the client's activities, noting any concerns or observations.
