About The Position

Under direct supervision, will assist in the delivery and daily operations of the City’s Recreation Program. Job duties will assist with community events, recreation programs and/or services, and may vary based on program assignment. The work schedule is limited to 20 hours per week and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on program needs. This is a part-time, at-will, position that receives direct supervision from a Community Services Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge and rules related to recreation activities.
  • Basic customer service practices and techniques.
  • City policies and procedures.
  • Safety precautions and procedures related to assigned area, facility, or special event.
  • First aid/CPR methods necessary for adults and/or children/infants.
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment and computers, basic record-keeping, arithmetic, and computer applications related to the work.
  • English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Follow directions and work cooperatively.
  • Use recreation software and basic computer applications.
  • Communicate clearly with staff and the public.
  • Maintain a safe and positive program environment.
  • Work a varied schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Follow proper safety rules and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including City staff and the public.
  • Possession of an American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certificate (or ability to obtain before start of employment).
  • If under 18 years of age, you must have a valid work permit.

Nice To Haves

  • Some paid or volunteer experience in recreation, youth programs, customer service, or related fields is desirable, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of recreation programs, activities, and special events.
  • Provide basic customer service, including answering questions and assisting patrons.
  • Assisting with class registration functions, both in person and on the phone.
  • Support facility, event, or recreation program operations including room setup, breakdown, and cleanliness.
  • Monitor program areas and ensure participant safety.
  • Assist with equipment distribution and collection.
  • Perform a wide variety of minor maintenance functions and light custodial tasks as needed by assignment.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as required.
