The Department of Parks and Recreation is hiring temporary Recreation Instructors to coach and teach multiple levels in its gymnastics program. Instructors serve Arlington County and surrounding communities by providing quality gymnastics classes and coaching competitive teams for participants of all ages and abilities. The program includes recreational classes and two competitive teams, the Arlington Aerials and the Arlington Tigers, which participate in state, regional, and national competitions. The recreation program offers more than 400 classes annually. Positions are available at three levels. Recreation Instructor I is typically assigned to roles for which some gymnastics instruction or coaching experience is appropriate. Recreation Instructor II is typically assigned to beginner and intermediate classes, including therapeutic recreation classes as needed. Recreation Instructor III is typically assigned to competitive teams, advanced classes, and therapeutic recreation classes for participants with disabilities, and may substitute for other classes or teams as assigned. Starting hourly rates are $22.10, $26.20, and $30.28, respectively. The positions are part-time and temporary. Typical hours are weekday evenings from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; most shifts take place evenings and weekends. Applicants should submit a complete application, including the supplemental questionnaire, and attach a resume highlighting relevant qualifications. A resume does not replace the completed application.
