About The Position

This exciting opportunity will help foster community engagement and enhance the quality of life for Cypress residents! We are seeking an energetic, community-driven Recreation Coordinator to lead, develop, and implement engaging recreational programs, events, and activities. There is currently one vacancy in the Community Center to oversee athletic field operations, scheduling, and coordination with the Advisory Committee on Use of Athletic Facilities (ACUAF) groups. This recruitment will close on Friday, August 7 at 5 p.m. or until 250 applications are received; whichever comes first.

Requirements

  • One year of full-time responsible experience in recreation programs, including experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sociology or a related field.
  • Valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certifications issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association are required.
  • Experience working with community based sports organizations and other outside sports groups.
  • Strong knowledge of athletic field operations, scheduling, and youth sports programming.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and poised under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and resolve scheduling conflicts effectively.
  • Experience with Recreation-based registration software, particularly CivicRec.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee athletic field reservations, permits, and facility scheduling.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the City and ACUAF organizations.
  • Monitor field usage and ensure compliance with City policies and facility regulations.
  • Coordinate field allocations, seasonal scheduling, and special event requests.
  • Conduct meetings with ACUAF groups and outside organizations regarding field use and operational matters.
  • Assist with the development of field maintenance schedules in coordination with Public Works staff.
  • Schedule, organize, promote, and attend recreation programs, sports activities, tournaments, and special events.
  • Recruit, schedule, train and supervise part-time staff, volunteers, and contract personnel.
  • Assist in budget preparation.
  • Respond to public inquiries and resolve facility use conflicts in a professional and timely manner.
  • Support department-wide recreation programs, community events, and special projects as assigned.
