About The Position

Under direct supervision from the Senior Services Recreation Supervisor, this position will develop and implement safe and healthy arts & craft activities for community seniors and adults with adaptive needs. This position will maintain an environment of meaningful engagement in a respectful manner. This position will also support, assist and work in collaboration when necessary with the Recreation Coordinator II team in all other on-site and off-site activities as needed and directed. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt. This is a job progression position.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or a GED equivalent is required.
  • For enrolled Community members without a GED, must obtain a GED.
  • Requires participation in the HR GED Program and successful completion of the Arizona state certified exam in order to continue employment with SRPMIC.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year full-time recreation related work with a Senior population preferred
  • An Associate’s degree in a gerontology related field is preferred.
  • The ability to speak the Pima or Maricopa language preferred.
  • Food Handler, CPR, and First Aid certifications required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, plans, and implements the arts & crafts activities component of the program while applying maximum creativity and initiative.
  • Responsible for ordering all supplies needed in a timely manner and maintain a consistent inventory of these supplies to include maintaining a well-kept and organized storage of this inventory.
  • Ensures all arts and crafts projects have clear directions, simple instructions, and/or visual prototypes for senior understanding.
  • Makes recommendations for Arts and Crafts enhancements to include executing enhancements as directed by division and department leadership.
  • Strives to incorporate O’odham (Pima) and Piipaash (Maricopa) customs, culture and traditions into the program’s arts and crafts.
  • Participates in efforts to gauge Seniors interests and needs along with planning and implementation methods to meet those needs.
  • Maintains a consistency in quality of projects across all recreation sites: Salt River Senior Center, the Way of Life Facility, and the Lehi Community Building.
  • Supports the Recreation Coordinator II team with on-site and community-site events as needed.
  • Assists the Recreation Coordinator II team with event set-up, decorations, tear-down and clean-up.
  • Assists event participants while they exit transportation vehicles, vans, shuttles, and busses.
  • Greets and welcomes event participants and assists with event sign-up sheets.
  • Ensures meaningful engagement is occurring with all participants during the event to include checking in on them to ensure a quality experience for all.
  • Help with food service as needed.
  • May provide driver services and transportation services as needed.
  • Supports the Recreation Coordinator II team with off-site events as needed.
  • Adheres to all established safety requirements as indicated by the event coordinator and helps to ensure safety of trip participants.
  • Attends all meetings required for each off-site event as indicated by the trip’s lead Coordinator II.
  • Supports the Coordinator II team as an extra eyes-and-ear to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and meaningful experience for trip participants.
  • Chaperone, engage, and escort trip participants before, during, and after trip.
  • Attend post-trip meeting and offer feedback and suggestions that will enhance future engagements.
  • May provide driver services and transportation services as needed.
  • Supports the Coordinator II team with any other assignments as needed.
  • Provides principal engagement in a kind, patient, and respectful manner.
  • Will deliver quality customer service and meaningful companionship to all senior and adults with disabilities at all times while program participants are involved in any event or while they are on campus.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental operation.
