About The Position

Under general supervision from the Athletic Program Manager, assists in the implementation of a comprehensive athletic program for SRPMIC youth and adults. This position is subject to non-standard work hours and is treated as an FLSA non-exempt position. The Recreation Coordinator I differs from the Recreation Coordinator II, by providing more of a supportive role with program activities and events and is entry level position. This position is eligible for progression requiring familiarity with the program and leveraging professional working relationships.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or GED and one (1) year recreation related work including experience with programming and coordinating structured and specialized recreational activities required.
  • Knowledge of the culture, customs traditions, history and government of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local, SRPMIC laws, codes and regulations and procedures pertaining to recreation programs and administration.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations and tournament bracketing governing various competitive athletic games such as softball, baseball, basketball, etc.
  • Knowledge of a variety of recreational, social and cultural programs for youths and adults.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures of recreation facility maintenance and operations.
  • Skill in organizing, promoting, and operating public events, sporting events, and recreation programs.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with public and Tribal officials, representatives of a variety of agencies, organizations and groups, and members of the Community.
  • Ability to perform first aid and CPR techniques.
  • Ability to maintain and promote safe practices for the operation of sporting events, facilities and equipment.
  • Ability to develop, plan, organize, and implement recreation programs and activities.
  • Ability to stimulate and sustain participant interest in recreation activity.
  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with the public.
  • Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use personal computer and related software including MS Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and members.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and establish goals.
  • Must successfully pass an extensive background/criminal background check including fingerprinting.
  • Prior to hire as an employee, applicants will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
  • Will be required to pass a pre-employment background/fingerprint check.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with organizing, scheduling, and monitoring organized/intramural sporting events and programs for SPRMIC youth and adults.
  • Observes and monitors coaches, participants, spectators and officials to ensure all rules, regulations, and codes of conduct are closely followed.
  • Acts as score/time keeper for league and intramural sporting events.
  • Maintains league records and standings for use in determining tournament selections.
  • Assists with determining tournament brackets for all competitive and intramural sports events.
  • Distributes league awards, trophies and ensures fees collected are accurately accounted for.
  • Issues, retrieves, and accounts for all athletic supplies during open gym and athletic programs and events.
  • Monitors and provides assistance to individuals participating in athletic program/activities and events.
  • Ensures event location is properly set-up for athletic programs, activities and events.
  • Ensures sporting equipment and supplies are ready for use prior to athletic program activities and events.
  • Develops and distributes paper and digital flyers, brochures and other promotional materials to promote registration and participation in athletic programs and activities.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating rosters used in forming leagues and open invitation sporting events.
  • Records attendance for all sport/individual recreational activities.
  • Assists with evaluating assigned sporting officials and completes league paperwork.
  • Completes accident and incident reports; renders routine first aid for minor injuries, as necessary.
  • Attends meetings, educational workshops, and training sessions as well as assist in other departmental functions as required.
  • Assist with coordinating monthly activities for Community Seniors and adaptive leisure participants.
  • Works closely with all other CRS divisions to plan and develop camps and larger CRS Events.
  • Assists other CRS divisions as needed to ensure programs/activities continue to operate.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator II, Athletic Program Manager, Assistant Director or Director.
