About The Position

The Recreation Associate is a low/mid-level position at the Washington Park Tennis Center. This role involves assisting with a variety of tennis activities, providing front-line guest services, and potentially managing other part-time Recreation Associates. Responsibilities include customer service, operating point of sale systems, managing rentals, and acting as a keyholder or opening/closing manager. Experience in retail, teaching, office work, family entertainment, food service, or customer service is beneficial. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends, with hours based on facility needs. Associates may also be asked to work at other Park District facilities.

Requirements

  • Must be 16+ years of age or older.
  • Willingness to learn educational information and details about the Park District specific to the Washington Park Tennis Center.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership, be trustworthy and capable of working alone.
  • Must be a team player and be willing to work in groups.
  • Must possess emotional maturity and show respect when working with children and adults.
  • Sensitivity to patron and/or participants socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds and individual needs and capabilities.
  • Must follow lead and direction of Assistant Director of Recreation and Marketing, Athletics Assistant – Recreational Tennis Manager, or designated Facility & Program Supervisors.
  • Must be able to read and write and have good command of the English language.
  • Good oral and written communication.
  • Physical capabilities – lifts 50 pounds, squat, bend and move as necessary for the job.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematics.
  • Must have basic proficiency of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must present a neat and professional appearance.
  • Responsible for following policies and procedures outlined in Springfield Park District employee manual.
  • Must live within a 50-mile radius from Bunn Administration building 2500 S 11th Springfield IL 62703 in the State of Illinois or must be willing to move to such a compliant location within the first 6 months of acceptance of a position with the Springfield Park District.

Nice To Haves

  • Part-time experience in retail, teaching, office, family entertainment centers, food industry, customer service representative and other similar activities involving the public, pre-school age children to seniors is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Point of Sale Systems, including cash handling, cash registers, and cash close-out responsibilities.
  • Assist patrons with admissions, membership passes, activity sign-ups, and rentals using RecTrac and Web Trac.
  • Manage Tennis Center Desk operations, including opening and closing procedures, keyholder duties, and arming alarm systems.
  • Work front-line registration desks and provide excellent customer service.
  • Perform receptionist duties such as answering phones professionally, transferring calls, filing, and organizing.
  • Assist with recreation program preparation, cleaning projects, and organizing activities for participants.
  • Help with group activities for various age groups, from pre-school children to seniors, under direct supervision.
  • Monitor court activities, programs, and rentals at the Washington Park Tennis Center.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding the Washington Park Tennis Center’s services and products.
  • Aid other area tennis staff as assigned and when needed.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary pro shop, restrooms, and rental equipment.
