About The Position

The City of Sherwood is looking for an On Call Recreation Assistant to assist the Community Services Department and Field house recreation programs. This is an on-call, weekend position, with occasional weeknights and holidays. The role may involve providing training and orientation to volunteers, students, and newly assigned personnel on site policies and practices.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of recreation programs and general office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of English and business grammar.
  • Knowledge of customer service.
  • Knowledge of use of standard office equipment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, including coaches, teams, players, parents, spectators, and other employees.
  • Ability to function in a high energy environment and provide quality customer service to clients of all Recreation Division programs.
  • Ability to conduct all games, matches, and activities according to prescribed rules and regulations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment as a student.
  • Some experience or program specific knowledge in the assigned activity.
  • Valid Oregon Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications and software utilized within the assigned department.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Previous experience working directly with the public and/or in municipal recreation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Set up facilities for events and activities as needed, following written and drawn diagrams.
  • Work cooperatively with staff members to plan and execute room set up and tear-down.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Provide customer service, greet visitors and respond to inquiries from the public.
  • Provide information in a clear, concise and efficient manner.
  • Register participants in classes and special events.
  • Open and close facilities for programs and events, following safety protocols.
  • Accept and receipt payments as needed.
  • Perform cash & cash register handling procedures as needed.
  • Perform a variety of clerical activities, such as photocopying, filing, sorting documents, mailings, etc.
  • Monitor facility during special events, providing customer service to renter and event participants, monitoring safety and adherence to facility guidelines and reviewing check in/out procedures.
  • Perform light cleaning duties as needed.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with City staff, other organizations, and the general public.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures for work areas.
  • Provide assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate.
  • Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
