About The Position

Under close supervision, the Recreation Assistant provides customer service to patrons and performs routine problem resolution in assigned locations. This is a part-time role where the pay rate offered is based on experience. The position involves assisting with daily operations of recreation facilities, handling registrations and reservations, supporting event setup and execution, and performing clerical duties. The role also requires monitoring patrons, identifying and resolving safety hazards, and performing emergency services as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • No previous work experience required.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.
  • Depending on area of assignment: must hold a Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification or obtain the certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service in a fast, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Participate in daily operations of assigned facility, including organizing, cleaning, and sanitizing work areas and public areas.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory and supplies.
  • Respond to requests for information, complaints, and other related issues from the general public.
  • Prepare paperwork, rosters, reports, and simple statistics related to daily activities.
  • Operate cash registers, balance cash registers, complete receipts, handle cash, and ensure cash drawers and deposits are properly accounted for after each shift.
  • Maintain security of cash and keep accurate records of monies and transactions.
  • Attend in-service trainings and maintain required certifications.
  • Receive and process recreation program registrations, memberships, and facility reservations, including routine bookkeeping activities.
  • Assist with pre-event and post-event activities such as event setup, painting, decorating, purchasing supplies, design and creation of ideas and themes, cleanup, and storage of props and decorations.
  • Distribute and collect gaming equipment within applicable facilities.
  • Set up facilities for classes.
  • Assist with event day operations, including cash handling, beverage and giveaway distribution, and leading community activities.
  • Perform clerical activities, including inputting information into databases, preparing promotional flyers, answering phones, filing, and maintaining calendars.
  • Enter information into databases, websites, and other tracking systems.
  • Monitor patrons utilizing recreation facilities.
  • Identify and resolve potentially hazardous situations.
  • Maintain safety for all members and guests.
  • Perform emergency services, including rescue, response, and first aid, as necessary.
