About The Position

The City of Carson is seeking eligible candidates for the position of Recreation Assistant III - Early Childhood Teacher's Aide. The ideal candidate is a current or recent college student who enjoys working with children (pre-school age), in a fun and collaborative work environment. Prior to applying, candidates must have completed core early childhood units. This is a part-time unclassified position, limited to 980 hours/fiscal year. This position is represented by AFSCME 809. The work schedule is five days a week (Monday to Friday), 12 noon to 5:30 pm (includes a half hour unpaid lunch break). The schedule may vary between 12 noon to 5:30 PM. Under the direction of the Site Director and Child Care Teacher, this role assists in the daily instruction and presentation of activities for pre-school children at a day care site. This is an at-will position.

Requirements

  • Completion of thirty (30) college semester units which must include at least twelve (12) semester units of early childhood education (ECE) college courses
  • Possession of a valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate
  • One (1) year of leadership experience in early childhood programming.
  • Official or unofficial transcripts, indicating completion of the required post-secondary (college level) ECE course work
  • Valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid certificate

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing educational, recreational and other enrichment activities to pre-school children
  • Provides a safe and positive learning environment
  • Maintains instructional areas in a neat, clean and orderly condition
  • Provides instructions, demonstrations and activities as appropriate to assigned age group
  • Supervises students on educational and recreational excursions
  • Participates in a variety of community and classroom activities and events
  • Performs related duties as required.
