About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Toledo is hiring an Early Childhood Child Care Assistant Teacher to support young children at one of its six early childhood locations across Greater Toledo. The role assists the Lead Teacher with lesson plans and daily classroom activities, and provides care for children from 6 weeks through age 5. Daily care may include diaper changes, bottle feeding, helping children fall asleep, offering comfort, tidying toys and the classroom, and singing and dancing with preschoolers. The work involves frequent movement and active supervision. The assistant teacher also builds relationships with children and their families, supports play and friendships, serves snacks and lunches, and does light cleaning to keep the space clean and inviting. Shifts are typically flexible, with approximately 15–35 hours per week depending on availability.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Understanding and knowledge of children, their behavior, and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Warm and friendly personality and willingness to interact with children.
• Meet DCY licensing qualifications for training and background checks.
• Enroll in CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and Prevention of Infectious Diseases training; the YMCA covers the training.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing lesson plans and the daily classroom schedule of activities.
• Provide daily care for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years, including diaper changes, bottle feeding, helping children fall asleep, and offering comfort.
• Actively supervise children and move around the classroom as needed.
• Build relationships with children and their families.
• Play games, help children build friendships, and serve as a positive role model.
• Serve snacks and lunches.
• Perform light cleaning and keep the classroom clean and inviting.
