About The Position

Performs a variety of routine technical and field supervisory duties as needed to oversee the success of scheduled events, recreation programs, arts programs, games and special events. Works under the general supervision of the Recreation & Arts Supervisor(s). May provide close supervision to various part-time staff, volunteer personnel, and participants enrolled in recreation and arts activities, programs, and events.

Requirements

  • Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties.
  • One year of experience performing above or related duties as a seasonal, part-time or volunteer worker; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Utah State Driver’s License and meet the requirements of the city’s Motor Vehicle Policy.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must possess the following within three (3) months of hire: CPR and First-Aid Certification from an approved source CDC Concussion Training
  • Working knowledge of the rules and regulations of a variety of recreational and arts activities; methods and techniques of developing and operating recreation and arts programs; general principles of supervision and officiating; community and public relations; equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in comprehensive community recreation and arts programming.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, various age groups, other organizations and the public; communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises facility and activity areas during program times to ensure public safety; performs opening and closing procedures; secures doors and other access points upon arrival and departure.
  • Attends regularly scheduled events, games, programs, and departmental trainings to ensure efficient operations; sets up equipment and ensures availability of program resources; serves as official departmental representative; mediates disputes between players, spectators, participants, and officials; controls the game or event by enforcing established rules, regulations, and requirements.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating program activities; assists in implementing a variety of arts activities such as rehearsals and shows; acquires program equipment and supplies; enforces rules, maintains discipline of participants; maintains constant alertness and awareness of participant activities to minimize incidents or accidents; ensures compliance with policies and procedures by all staff members and participants.
  • May provide immediate supervision to part-time staff or volunteer personnel; oversees coaches and officials; supervises facility activity areas during program times to ensure public safety.
  • Assists in implementing various trainings for part-time staff.
  • Provides direct leadership to participants enrolled in recreation and arts activities and programs.
  • Performs the duties of umpire or official; performs as official scorekeeper; makes final determinations related to winning teams, causes and need to declare forfeitures, etc.; may make decisions regarding player eligibility; maintains records of league and tournament standings.
  • Assists in field preparation and maintenance as necessary; ensures proper maintenance of equipment and recreation facilities.
  • Operates concession stand; takes and prepares food orders; sells inventory; operates cash register and accounts for cash; gives proper change.
  • Performs scheduled upkeep and maintenance of facility and/or park; cleans floors, walls, windows, bathrooms, etc.; sweeps and dusts.
  • Completes required reports and submits them in a timely manner; renders routine first aid to injured participants.
