About The Position

The Arc of Ocean County is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Recreation Assistant to join our Family Support Department. In this rewarding role, you'll help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities experience everything their communities have to offer through recreational programs, social events, and inclusive activities that promote confidence, friendships, and independence. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid New Jersey driver's license in good standing with no more than five (5) motor vehicle points.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience planning recreational activities, community events, or social programming preferred.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting team members is a plus.
  • Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Demonstrated employment stability preferred, including at least one (1) year with a previous employer.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead recreational activities that encourage participation, personal growth, and community involvement.
  • Organize outings, seasonal events, fitness programs, arts and crafts, cooking activities, and other enriching experiences.
  • Adapt activities to ensure individuals of varying abilities can actively participate and succeed.
  • Foster an enjoyable, welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels included.
  • Support individuals during community outings, recreational events, and social gatherings throughout Ocean County.
  • Encourage participants to build friendships, strengthen communication skills, and develop confidence in social settings.
  • Safely transport individuals to scheduled activities using agency vehicles when assigned.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for inclusion within the community.
  • Assist with scheduling activities, preparing materials, coordinating events, and managing program logistics.
  • Provide guidance and encouragement to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) participating in recreational programming.
  • Ensure participant safety while maintaining a fun, structured, and supportive environment.
  • Respond appropriately to participant needs while promoting dignity and person-centered supports.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation and activity records.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, families, and community partners.
  • Contribute ideas that enhance recreational programming and improve participant experiences.
