About The Position

The Arc of Ocean County is seeking compassionate and outgoing Part-Time Recreation Assistants to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities enjoy engaging recreational activities, build lasting friendships, and become active members of their communities. This flexible position offers a variety of shifts, from community outings and special events to fitness classes and social gatherings, providing an opportunity to make a real difference while creating experiences that participants look forward to each week.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid New Jersey driver's license in good standing with no more than five (5) motor vehicle points.
  • Demonstrated employment stability preferred, including at least one (1) year with a previous employer.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recreational programs that encourage fun, personal growth, and community participation.
  • Support individuals during social events, community outings, seasonal celebrations, and recreational activities throughout Ocean County.
  • Help facilitate fitness classes, arts and crafts, cooking groups, dances, volunteer opportunities, and other engaging programs.
  • Encourage individuals to try new activities while celebrating their interests and accomplishments.
  • Foster positive social interactions and meaningful relationships among participants.
  • Promote confidence, independence, and active involvement within the community.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating patience, encouragement, and respect during every activity.
  • Support individuals in achieving their recreational and personal goals.
  • Provide supervision and person-centered support throughout all recreational activities and community events.
  • Safely transport participants using agency vehicles when assigned.
  • Assist recreation staff with activity setup, event preparation, and program implementation.
  • Maintain a welcoming, organized, and safe environment where participants can enjoy each experience.
  • Collaborate closely with supervisors and fellow Recreation Assistants to deliver high-quality programming.
  • Communicate participant needs, accomplishments, and concerns to ensure continuity of support.
  • Contribute ideas that enhance recreational opportunities and improve participant experiences.
