About The Position

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is seeking a part-time Recovery Support Specialist to join their Mobile Crisis Unit. This role involves providing recovery support and crisis intervention to clients living in the community. The position is community-based and involves an overnight shift, specifically on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. LSSI is a leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing healing, justice, and wholeness to individuals and communities, with a history of over 150 years of service in Illinois.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in the human service or social service required.
  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist certification required, or to be obtained within one year of date of hire.
  • Lived mental health or substance abuse experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent organization, presentation and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.
  • Background check clearance required.
  • Valid driver’s license, in good standing for the state of residency required.
  • Access to reliable transportation required.

  • CADC (Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to clients experiencing a mental health crisis or substance use crisis via telephone or in person.
  • Provide shift coverage in Mobile Crisis and maintain a caseload of community-based clients.
  • Engage, provide relapse education, and support clients in their recovery journey via telephone or in person.
  • Serve as a mentor to clients and provide ongoing support.
  • Partner with clients to access services and supports that will help individuals attain personal recovery goals.
  • Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individuals in a dignified, respectful, honest, and fair manner.
