About The Position

The South Carolina Recovering Professional Program (SCRPP) is dedicated to safeguarding public safety by identifying healthcare professionals who need assistance due to substance use or mental health disorders and facilitating their return to safe practice. The Recovering Professional Coordinator role involves using clinical expertise, critical thinking, and advanced case management for licensed healthcare professionals referred to SCRPP. This position serves as a primary liaison between participants, their respective boards, and referral sources, assisting participants through intake, treatment, and monitoring services. It requires exceptional organizational, communication, time-management, and critical thinking skills, along with clinical expertise in substance use disorders and mental health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the human services field and 3 years of clinical experience in the substance use disorder, addictions, and/or mental health field required
  • Master’s degree in the human services field and 1 year of clinical experience in the substance use disorder, addictions, and/or mental health field required.
  • Advanced case management experience including technical writing, formal presentation and advocacy for patients, and/or experience coordinating care with referral sources highly preferred.
  • Exceptional organization, communication (both verbal and written), time-management and critical thinking skills.
  • Clinical skills in substance use disorders and mental health.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified as an Alcohol Drug Counselor through the Addictions Professionals of South Carolina (APSC) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced case management to impaired or potentially impaired licensed healthcare professionals to ensure effective referral, treatment, and support in the state of South Carolina.
  • Maintains a caseload of approximately 60 participants.
  • Prioritizes various running tasks daily, such as missed check-ins, missed tests, positive tests, vacation requests, treatment updates, and quality assurance reports, to ensure all deadlines are met for time-sensitive documents, including Board reports, reports to employers, schools, other monitoring programs, and attorneys.
  • Inputs gathered information into the electronic case management system, coordinates initial toxicology testing, and completes referral information for an initial evaluation.
  • Determines and implements appropriate deadline dates verbally and in writing associated with various steps of the intake process and monitoring, articulating the reasoning for toxicology deadlines to potential participants.
  • Completes routine updates via detailed documentation and verbal communication to referral sources and respective Boards on a participant’s compliance and progress with monitoring and treatment requirements.
  • Completes quality assurance updates and internal review updates regularly or as needed, with mandatory attendance at QA and internal review meetings for all assigned participants, and outcome evaluation processes.
  • Presents information in person utilizing exceptional verbal skills and professionalism during healthcare-related licensee board hearings and association meetings that relate to participant’s progress and compliance/noncompliance with treatment.
  • Completes a brief exit interview on all successfully discharged participants after one (1) to five (5) years of monitoring.
  • Conducts intake assessments on all incoming licensees referred for intake, including interpretation of data and clinical documentation, and utilizes clinical competency to determine individualized toxicology and evaluation options.
  • Interprets reports from referral sources and participants into clinically appropriate language for staffing and referral purposes.
  • Maintains professional boundaries and communicates professionally with participants regarding evaluation results, toxicology results, and requests to voluntarily refrain from practice, when indicated.
  • Documents and presents all intake information gathered through the first phase of the intake process utilizing appropriate clinical terminology during bi-weekly staff meetings with SCRPP team members in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in staffing of program participants to ensure appropriate evaluation/treatment placement, level of intensity of care are appropriate to the participants’ needs, monitor progress, participation in support groups, toxicology testing, and communicate professionally with board staff and referral sources.
  • Monitors provider services to ensure they provide treatment consistent with the MOA and intent of SCRPP.
  • Participates in provider presentations and may have the opportunity to visit providers to promote collaborative relationships and ensure quality of care.
  • Collaborates with agencies involved in the monitoring and provision of services for recovering professionals (counselors, psychiatrists, out of state monitors).
  • Attends trainings related to treatment and case management to maintain knowledge of current developments in the field of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) treatment in order to utilize appropriate skills.
  • Attends all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
