About The Position

The County of San Diego is currently hiring for a Records Clerk. This position is eligible for appointment at step 1, $44,262.40 annually. Future Salary Increases are planned for June 2026 (6% increase) and June 2027 (5.50% increase). Interviews will take place the week of July 27, 2027, with job offers the following week. Current vacancies are in the Probation Department, but the established list may be used for future vacancies in other departments. Hiring locations include North County (Vista), South County (Chula Vista), East County (El Cajon), and Central County (Downtown/North Park). Records clerks working in Probation process and interpret information from a variety of source documents, perform data entry, and provide customer service. Incumbents may also provide confidential juvenile/adult offenders’ information to Probation Officers, law enforcement agencies, and attorneys. Positions may be assigned to work in locked correctional facilities and interact with resident/incarcerated individuals. Some positions may be stationed in back-office and/or reception areas and interact with staff from the Superior Courts of California. Probation Records Clerks are supervised by a Senior Office Assistant and/or Supervising Office Assistant.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of recent full-time general clerical experience performing duties such as typing/keyboarding, filing, reception, and records management; OR, Completion of an administrative, office, or front desk certificate program from a recognized community or business college.
  • An associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for experience.
  • Be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Be detail oriented.
  • Have exceptional communication skills.
  • Have strong clerical/administrative skills.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Have extensive computer knowledge.
  • Have the ability to remain highly motivated.
  • Have above average data entry skills.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in high-stress or unpredictable situations, including interactions with individuals who may be argumentative, intoxicated, combative, or experiencing a medical emergency.
  • Undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness.
  • Felony convictions will be disqualifying.
  • Misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency.

Responsibilities

  • Process and interpret information from a variety of source documents.
