About The Position

CAMBA is a community organization dedicated to building an inclusive New York City by providing comprehensive, integrated programs in Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We serve over 72,000 individuals and families annually across 100 locations, with a significant portion being immigrants, refugees, and families living in poverty. CAMBA administers services at various community centers in Brooklyn, including the Howard Community Center, offering education, recreation, cultural activities, health information, youth leadership, and social services. These programs are available after school, in the evenings, and on weekends.

Requirements

  • Sufficient education (English-speaking, -reading, -writing, & math abilities) to comprehend oral and written information and to assist callers and visitors and staff.
  • Ability to type 25 words per minute.
  • If off-site or school-based, may require: Dept. of Health, Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance; doctor's note certifying good health; proof of negative results from TB test; and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance.
  • If off-site or school-based, ability to maintain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and client confidentiality.
  • Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures.
  • Comply with Federal, State, City and CAMBA security and privacy policies.
  • Retrieve messages from general voicemail and forward to appropriate personnel.
  • Take or deliver messages or transfer calls to voicemail when appropriate personnel are unavailable.
  • Answer questions about the organization and provide callers with address, directions, and other information.
  • Welcome onsite visitors, determine the nature of their business, and announce visitors to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor visitor access and issue passes when required.
  • Update appointment calendars.
  • Receive, sort, and route mail, and maintain and route publications.
  • Maintain fax and copy machines, assist users, send faxes, and retrieve and route incoming faxes.
  • Update site bulletin board weekly.
  • Maintain the professional appearance of the receptionist’s area.
  • Maintain package log and program papers.
  • Order, receive, and maintain office supplies.
  • Create and print memos, correspondence, reports, program marketing materials, and other documents when necessary.
  • Administer and track application forms.
  • Contact and schedule potential participants for assessments.
  • Assist with screening potential participants.
  • Organize and maintain filing systems (e.g., waiting list, application forms).
  • Perform other clerical duties as needed, such as filing, photocopying, and collating.
  • May perform computer data entry/verification functions.
  • Tasks may be modified, expanded and/or assigned over time.
