About The Position

Provides indirect patient care in the office/clinic setting. Greets and registers patients. Inputs or verifies patient demographic and insurance information. Performs clerical duties. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, office/clinic staff and the medical staff. Will be able to work without constant oversight and has the ability to multitask in a changing environment subsequent to the number of patients at any one time. Will maintain the mission and core values set forth by Natchitoches Regional Medical Center.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in a hospital or medical facility preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Word preferred.
  • Associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as first contact for visitors and staff, refers all telephone calls and visitors presenting the department in a professional and positive manner.
  • Exercises independent judgment, handling routine matters or making appropriate referrals.
  • Reviews patient’s account prior to appointment to ensure forms are current and scanned into EMR; verify patient demographics at each visit; provide appropriate paperwork to new patients; ensures Medicare patient’s MSP completed accurately and at each visit.
  • Collect payments and/or forwards appropriately; applies discounts as applicable, refers patients to source group for payment arrangements as needed writes receipts, and posts appropriately; completes day end procedures within approved time frames.
  • Creates claims accurately and timely; knowledgeable of coding and medical terminology; completes day end procedures within the approved time frames.
  • Contacts patients to confirm appointments 24 hours prior to scheduled appointments; adheres to scheduling template guidelines when scheduling new and return appointments; schedules are kept current.
  • Documents no show, reschedule, and or cancelled appointments; creates telephone encounters as needed or directing calls to the appropriate staff for triage.
  • Fax in-box is kept current; all documents are linked to patients accounts daily; test results are attached to the correct patient and order daily; releases medical records appropriately per policy; organizes all paperwork, filing and routing as appropriate; ensures legible and complete.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Participates in emergency and disaster situations.
  • Attends staff meetings as required.
  • Will float to other clinics as necessary.
  • Maintains inventory and orders clerical supplies as needed.
  • Registers patients into Meditech if send out labs or x-rays/procedures are needed.
  • Receptionist will be cross trained to do Biller/Insurance Verifier’s job.
  • Obtains appropriate nursing staff to assist patients/physicians in the care of the patient.
  • Enters and verifies orders in the computer system.
  • Retrieves lab results from the reference labs and brings the results to the nurse.
  • Performs all aspects of direct and indirect patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Recognizes personal limitations and seeks guidance as necessary.
  • Correctly performs collecting and labeling lab specimens.
  • Properly performs any patient related duty with expertise and efficiency.
  • Records date of visit, age, weight, height, head circumference (<1 year old) at all checkups, evaluations, sport and pre-op physicals and as needed on sick visits.
  • Prepares the room and patient for exam and treatments.
  • Assists doctor with patients as required.
