About The Position

The Receiving Specialist is responsible for managing the inbound shipment process by inspecting, logging, tagging, and safely storing incoming produce to ensure all products strictly comply with company quality, food safety, and temperature standards before entry into warehouse inventory.

Requirements

  • Previous warehouse receiving, food distribution, or produce handling experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), handheld inventory scanners, and receiving software, or a willingness to learn.
  • Strong commitment to food safety protocols, hygiene standards, and strict adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 50 pounds, operate material handling equipment, and remain standing for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in cold-chain environments, including refrigerated storage areas and coolers.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong record-keeping skills, and effective communication skills in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Verify delivery documentation against Purchase Orders (POs) and Bills of Lading (BOL), including item descriptions, quantities, lot numbers, and country of origin.
  • Conduct initial checks for cleanliness, trailer temperature, pests, leaks, and signs of contamination.
  • Inspect incoming produce and packaging for mold, damage, spoilage, or discrepancies, and record initial receipt temperatures using calibrated thermometers.
  • Process receiving entries into the system using handheld units or computers, adjusting counts or substitutions to ensure system data matches physical stock.
  • Print and immediately apply color-coded pallet and case tags to ensure total traceability before moving items to storage.
  • Segregate and isolate non-conforming or un-tagged inventory, immediately notifying Quality Control and management for hold or rejection processing.
  • Maintain accurate receiving logs, temperature-at-receipt records, and inspection forms while upholding clean, safe, and compliant dock operations.
  • Perform cross-training in warehouse fulfillment tasks (picking, staging, and order assembly) to support overall warehouse operations and build product flow knowledge.
