About The Position

Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery is seeking dependable Receiving I team members to support nursery operations by unloading incoming plant shipments and preparing plant material for stocking within the yard. This role is responsible for unloading deliveries from transfer trucks and outside vendors, inspecting plant shipments, verifying order accuracy, and preparing plant material for placement in the correct nursery locations. Receiving team members play an important role in protecting plant quality and ensuring inventory accuracy before plants are stocked. Receiving I employees work closely with the Receiving Supervisor, Inventory team, and Quality Control staff to ensure plant material is healthy, properly handled, and accurately recorded within company systems.

Requirements

  • Ability to safely unload and handle plant material of varying sizes
  • Ability to follow receiving and inventory procedures and verify shipment accuracy
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors and other departments regarding discrepancies or plant quality concerns
  • Ability to work safely in an active nursery environment

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in a nursery, agriculture, warehouse, or receiving environment
  • Familiarity with plant identification and basic plant quality standards
  • Experience using handheld inventory scanners or inventory management systems

Responsibilities

  • Unload plant material of various sizes from transfer trucks and vendor deliveries using safe lifting techniques
  • Use team lift procedures when required and notify the Receiving Supervisor of equipment issues or supply needs
  • Verify plant shipments against purchase orders and document discrepancies using shipping documents or handheld inventory devices
  • Confirm plant species, variety, and container size match purchase order information
  • Work with Quality Control staff to inspect plant health and ensure material meets company standards
  • Notify the Purchasing team when plant quality concerns are identified
  • Assign color-coded cones to plant material designated for transfer to other nursery locations
  • Move plant material from Southern California or Oregon deliveries to designated inspection areas prior to stocking
  • Prepare plant material for stocking, including watering and separating plants designated for quarantine when required
  • Stock plant material in the appropriate nursery locations according to inventory procedures
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe receiving and nursery work areas
  • Handle plant material carefully to protect plant health and quality
