About The Position

The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity (OEEO) is currently seeking a Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Specialist who is interested in working on reasonable accommodations related to disability, religion, domestic violence status, and/or pregnancy. The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships. One of OEEO's responsibilities is the processing of requests for reasonable accommodations. A Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Request is a modification or adjustment to a job, work environment, or way things are usually done during the hiring process. RA's allow eligible employees and applicants to enjoy the rights and privileges of employment and perform the essential functions of their job unless such accommodation would cause an undue hardship for the agency.

Requirements

• A master's degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience working in one or a combination of the following areas: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, labor relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management; or in a related area.
• An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in "2" above.
• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and six years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in "2" above.
• A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", "3", or "4" above. College education may be substituted for professional experience at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma.

Responsibilities

• Process employee reasonable accommodation requests in a timely manner.
• Engage in good faith in the cooperative dialogue.
• Interview, collect, analyze, and interpret information to evaluate employee reasonable accommodation requests.
• Track and monitor assigned reasonable accommodations request.
• Educate and train supervisors on reasonable accommodation requests.
• Act as a liaison between employees, applicants, and supervisors in the resolution of employee reasonable accommodation requests.
• Provide guidance to staff on matters related to reasonable accommodations.
• Articulate and disseminate decisions made by the OEEO in a clear and concise matter.
• Record and maintain relative and sensitive documentation, including dispositions, scan supporting documents, etc.
• Draft and/or review presentations and/or reports.
