Requirements

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field.
Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience at the postsecondary education level and experience in providing student development counseling preferred.
A Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge of disability-related documentation and accommodation practices, including the ability to interpret psycho-educational documentation, assess disability-related needs, and determine appropriate accommodations and learning support through an interactive student intake process.
Skill in student counseling, development, and engagement, with the ability to provide individualized guidance, facilitate groups, support career exploration, and assist students with résumé development, interviewing, job-search strategies, professional behavior, and employment preparation.
Ability to develop and deliver effective training, workshops, and educational programming for students, faculty, and staff, including activities that strengthen student connection, engagement, self-advocacy, and a sense of belonging within the campus community.
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse student populations and campus partners, particularly students with disabilities, while addressing educational challenges, supporting learning strategies, facilitating community-building activities, and promoting access, inclusion, and student success.

Nice To Haves

Upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job related is preferred.

Responsibilities

Analyzes and interprets students' disability-related documentation, including psycho-educational documentation for determination of accommodations, disability-related support, and learning strategy support through an interactive intake process with students, including students who are Learning Disabled.
Assists students with educational problems related to their disabling condition and learning experience at CSUN, including screening for learning disabilities.
Provides student development and engagement services through individual counseling, group facilitation, career development activities, and community-building programs.
Develops and delivers training for faculty and staff, leads student groups and workshops, and facilitates activities that promote student connection, engagement, self-advocacy, and a sense of belonging within the campus community.
Serves as an information resource for prospective students, staff, and faculty on disability issues and the provision of college access and accommodations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
