About The Position

The Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) Specialist is responsible for providing real-time information and investigative support to law enforcement personnel in the field. This civilian position involves monitoring the RTCC workstation, viewing multiple computer and camera screens, and receiving, evaluating, and transmitting information via telephone, computer, and multi-channel radio, involving emergencies and critical situations. The specialist will utilize various computer systems to analyze data, maintain security of sensitive materials, detect suspicious activity, conduct database queries, research videos and social media, prepare reports, and develop GIS databases. Basic crime analysis, report preparation, and participation in training are also key functions. The role requires working under stressful conditions, potentially inside and occasionally outside, with the ability to relocate and be available during public emergencies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of basic crime analyst training (e.g. ANACAPA, IALEA, or FLEAT) or successful completion of the Volusia Sheriff’s Office Analyst Training within one (1) year of employment.
  • One (1) year of experience in a related field, law enforcement, intelligence analysis, or data analysis preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work a twelve (12) hour shift, rotating between dayshift and nightshift, including holidays, and weekends, and mandatory overtime to meet operational needs.
  • A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
  • May be required to complete and pass required skills testing.
  • This position will require an extensive background investigation and drug screening.

  • Florida Statues, Criminal methods of operations and crime analysis mapping.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Software applications such as Word, Excel and Access.
  • Operation of VSO RMS program and Volusia Sheriff CJIS Program.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ambulate independently.
  • See at a normal range or with reasonable accommodation.
  • Visual acuity (depth perception, peripheral vision) is necessary to operate a motorized vehicle.
  • Hear at a normal level or with reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the RTCC workstation, viewing multiple computer and camera screens.
  • Receives, evaluates, and transmits information via telephone, computer, and multi-channel radio, involving emergencies and critical situations.
  • Utilizes computer aided dispatch (CAD), ERMS, PowerBI, and other computer systems to analyze multiple data sets and recognize relevant intelligence.
  • Maintains security of highly sensitive materials and information.
  • Facilitates the detection of suspicious and criminal activity via camera feeds and relay information to responding law enforcement.
  • Conducts queries of Criminal Justice databases, including but not limited to Driver’s License Queries, Vehicle Registration Queries, and Criminal History Queries to aid in ongoing criminal investigations.
  • Research relevant videos, and social media accounts to assist in criminal investigations.
  • Prepares and distributes crime bulletins, briefings, alerts, and other reports as needed.
  • Develops and maintains Geographic Information System (GIS) databases to create criminal activity tracking maps.
  • Conducts basic crime analysis, including data collection, data cleaning and preliminary analysis.
  • Prepares basic crime reports and statistical summaries.
  • Assists RTCC Specialist II and Crime Analyst with complex projects.
  • Participates in training and professional development courses.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County, and local ordinances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
