SSP Law Co. LPA is seeking a Real Estate Attorney/Title Agency Manager to join our real estate practice area in our Hyde Park location. The Real Estate Attorney & In‑House Title Agency Manager serves as both legal counsel for real estate transactions and operational leader for the firm's Ohio‑licensed in‑house title agency. This role is responsible for legal oversight, regulatory compliance, risk management, and operational effectiveness of all title, escrow, and closing activities. The position ensures transactions comply with Ohio law, Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) requirements, title underwriter standards, and applicable federal regulations while supporting business growth and client service. The successful candidate must exhibit a "client first" and collaborative approach to the title insurance, closings and the practice of law. Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in the State of Ohio, in good standing
  • Hold an active Ohio Title Insurance Agent license (or in process of obtaining)
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience practicing real estate law or working with title operations (commercial title experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of real estate transactions and closing practices
  • Strong working knowledge Title insurance commitments, policies, and endorsements

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and oversight for title and closing matters for residential and commercial real estate transactions, including purchases, sales, refinances, construction financing, lot development and closings
  • Draft, review, and interpret purchase agreements, deeds, affidavits, easements, restrictive covenants, surveys, and closing documents
  • Address and resolve title matters of record, including defects, liens, encroachments, probate matters, and judgment issues; review of survey and title objections raised by Borrowers and Lenders, and coordination with applicable underwriters and/or underwriting counsel for necessary approvals
  • Oversee daily operations of in-house title insurance agency, including title examination, escrow, closing services, remittance, compliance and development of skills and experience of support team
  • Review and approve title commitments, title insurance policies, endorsements, policy remittance, and escrow procedures
  • Strong communication skills both internally and externally and willingness for collaboration, delegation to and training of support staff and accounting teams
