About The Position

We are growing our team for the upcoming fall nuclear outage season and looking for experienced Nuclear Reactor Service Technician II to attend the Dresden outage. The Commercial Nuclear Reactor Service Technician II is responsible for performing advanced reactor maintenance, fuel handling, refueling support, and specialized nuclear plant services at commercial nuclear power generating stations. This position supports reactor vessel internals maintenance, fuel movement activities, outage execution, and the operation of specialized tooling used in reactor servicing. The technician works under established nuclear safety standards, radiological controls, and quality assurance requirements while demonstrating technical proficiency and independent work execution. Job Level II Expectations: Demonstrates proficiency in reactor maintenance and fuel handling activities, performs assignments with limited supervision, provides technical guidance to junior technicians, and consistently executes work in compliance with nuclear safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience supporting commercial nuclear power plant outages, fuel handling operations, reactor maintenance, or related nuclear services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear plant work practices and outage execution.
  • Experience working in radiologically controlled areas.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, procedures, and engineering documents.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial nuclear utility or nuclear service vendor experience.
  • Held unescorted access in the last 365 days.
  • Prior qualification as Fuel Handler, Refueling Technician, Reactor Services Technician, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting PWR and/or BWR reactor systems.
  • Current nuclear worker qualifications and access authorization eligibility.
  • Familiarity with reactor vessel internals inspections and maintenance programs.
  • Experience operating underwater tooling, specialty lifting equipment, and fuel handling systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fuel handling activities during reactor refueling outages.
  • Support fuel movements and spent fuel pool operations.
  • Operate and maintain fuel handling equipment and associated tooling.
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear safety, criticality, and procedural requirements.
  • Perform inspection, maintenance, repair, and replacement of reactor vessel internals.
  • Support installation and removal of reactor vessel heads, control rod blades, and related components.
  • Operate specialized reactor servicing, inspection, lifting, and underwater tooling.
  • Execute mechanical maintenance activities within containment during outages.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Comply with radiological controls, ALARA principles, and work permits.
  • Adhere to nuclear quality assurance and procedural requirements.
  • Implement contamination control and proper use of protective equipment.
  • Participate in pre-job briefs and human performance activities.
  • Identify and report safety, quality, and equipment concerns.
  • Complete maintenance, inspection, and work package documentation.
  • Verify work complies with customer, regulatory, and quality standards.
  • Support corrective action and continuous improvement programs.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Level I technicians.
  • Coordinate activities with plant personnel, engineering, and radiation protection staff.
  • Support training, outage planning, equipment setup, and restoration activities.
