About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups with over 60 years of experience in providing services to the nuclear industry. As a Reactor Components Design Engineering Assistant, you will perform conceptual and detail design engineering work for reactor components, adhering to applicable codes, standards, and procedures. This role involves preparing design documents, technical reports, calculations, and drawings. You will work under the supervision of senior engineers, supporting various phases of engineering work including proposal preparation, design, testing, procurement, manufacturing, and installation support. You will also be responsible for responding to technical queries from reviewers or clients and reporting progress to leads and managers. The role requires developing technical documents such as engineering drawings, bills of materials, calculations, design specifications, design assessments, design requirements, design manuals, technical specifications for procurement, fabrication, and site installation, and testing specifications and reports. Additionally, you will support the preparation of TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary designs and assist with interfaces with regulatory bodies like TSSA and CNSC. You will also perform design reviews and verification for work done by others and support field construction and execution activities, including field changes, design revisions, and commissioning as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from a university of recognized standing.
  • Recent graduate up to 6 years of Mechanical Design experience.
  • Experience in classical stress calculation.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Drive for continuous learning.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Trained and experienced in the application of GD&T is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual and detail design engineering work for one or more reactor components to applicable codes, standards and procedures.
  • Prepare design documents, technical reports, including technical calculations and drawings.
  • Conduct phases of engineering work such as supporting proposal preparation, design engineering, testing, procurement, as well as manufacturing, and installation support.
  • Prepare responses to technical questions, from reviewers or clients.
  • Report progress on day-to-day work to leads and managers.
  • Develop information and prepare technical documents, such as: engineering drawings and bill of materials, calculations, design specifications, design assessment, design requirements, design manuals, technical specifications (for procurement, fabrication, and site installation), testing specifications and reports, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Support the leads in preparing TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary designs.
  • Support the leads in interfaces with the regulatory bodies, such as: TSSA and CNSC, as required.
  • Perform reviews and design verification for the design and engineering work done by others, per qualifications.
  • Support field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, as needed.
