  • Use coaching meetings to set goals, review graduation progress, solve problems, celebrate progress, and hold students accountable for communication, attendance, and completed work.
  • Maintain two-way contact, coordinate with families and support systems, and document clear progress updates and engagement summaries in PowerSchool. For referred students, the specialist takes responsibility for touch point and attendance entries while working with the assigned SSC to avoid duplicate entries.

  • Review applicable SSPs, IEPs, and Section 504 Plans and coordinate with the appropriate staff so the restart plan includes needed support.

  • Meet with the student and family when contact is made. Listen for the reason for disengagement, agree on a contact routine, and help the student complete an immediate academic task.
  • Draft a realistic course schedule, identify completed work that may be recovered, and coordinate course reopening when appropriate. Submit the proposed build to the counselor for review and approved assignment.
  • Use NBS as an early credit opportunity when appropriate, monitor progress, and adjust the plan with the student, family, teacher, and counselor as needed.
  • Document the student’s work, meaningful conversations, next steps, and case status. Present unresolved cases to the Leadership Team after 10 specialist outreach days; do not make an independent withdrawal or funding decision.
  • Arrange a live handoff with the student, Learning Center Coordinator, and receive Student Success Coach before returning the student to active coaching. Share the plan and follow up to confirm the student is connected to the new coach.
  • Maintain a case log and report referrals, contacts, work completed, returns to active coaching, 30 and 60-days participation, and reasons students leave. Complete the specialist phase within 30 calendar days of referral unless an extension is approved.
  • Keep referred students on their assigned Student Success Coach rosters in BrightThinker and PowerSchool. Use access to all rosters to monitor work and maintain each referred student’s touch points and attendance on the assigned roster; coordinate with the Student Success Coach and Learning Center Coordinator before any roster change.
