About The Position

Perform various duties to set-up and operate a variety of equipment including Gardner Grinding, various roll straighteners, unreeling and re-reeling equipment, resistance butt welder and electric vacuum annealing furnaces, following standard methods, practices and procedures. Work from bar code daily plan, work schedules, customer satisfaction assurance system sheets, other written or verbal instructions. Check coil tags at each operation to assure proper information and coil identity. At each straightening operation, load coil on to pay-off reel and through rolling mill and/or straightener. Use overhead hoist to place racks of bi- metal coils into floor level annealing. Input required data into programmed controller. Operation is automatic; furnace cycles and shuts off automatically. Monitor operation by means of temperature recording charts. Use hoist to unload and use Rockwell Tester for hardness checks. Between loads, check furnace for broken elements, damaged seals, insulation, etc. Observe color and brightness of annealed stock. Load coils of annealed stock on pay off reel at bi-metal straightener or Roll Mill and Bruderer Line. Thread material through processing equipment including ultrasonic inspection station. Select proper spacers, guides and rollers and make necessary adjustments to obtain required thickness and/or straightness. When defect shuts off machine, view with microscope and mark with hand or hydraulic punch. Cut out large defects and form new coil as required. Cut sample strip and use indicators, straight edge to check straightness, bow, twist, etc. Maintain required production records. Use chopper to dispose of scrap materials. Grease machines and maintain oil levels with proper oils; change oil and filters, tester transducers as required. Detect and report unsafe or defective equipment or material, unusual situations to the supervisor. Maintain area and equipment in a neat and orderly manner. Observe and obey all safety rules, regulations and practices. Perform other similar or related duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of charts, specifications, and micrometers
  • 1-2 years experience preferred
  • Use of numbers including decimals
  • Light physical effort required, equivalent to lifting, pushing, pulling 5 to 25 pounds
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
