About The Position

We are seeking a Rates and Freight Audit Clerk to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for auditing and verifying freight rates and charges to ensure accuracy and compliance with established policies and procedures. Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.

Requirements

  • An eagle eye for detail; ability to spot inaccuracies.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized.
  • Problem-solving skills and creativity in finding solutions.
  • Strong customer service skills, ensuring professional, helpful, and friendly interactions.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • A solid background in auditing, freight management, or a similar field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in an office environment managing numbers, details, and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with freight auditing or billing.
  • Familiarity with US and Canadian shipping regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Audit US and Canadian freight bills, ensuring accurate rating and accounting.
  • Manually rate invoices for special accounts according to agreements.
  • Collaborate with Pricing Analysts to determine special cost rates.
  • Liaise with terminals and departments to obtain correct cube/scale information.
  • Contact Interlines/Agents to confirm charges.
  • Assist the quoting department with overflow tasks.
  • Manage spreadsheets, reports, and queues for organization and accuracy.
  • Help streamline operations and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
