About The Position

We are looking for a RAN Performance Engineer – Baseband Software (5G) to join the PEU RAN Performance organization in Ottawa. Our team is responsible for systemizing, designing, implementing, and integrating software features that control the air interface in the 5G Radio Access Network (RAN). Within the Design organization, we are strengthening our capability to analyze and troubleshoot complex issues at RAN level, with a particular focus on Baseband software. You will become part of an expert group that looks at problems end‑to‑end – from radio conditions and configurations to feature combinations and customer use cases – to secure world‑class network performance. Requirements

  • Strong troubleshooting skills – comfortable debugging complex technical issues end‑to‑end
  • Solid knowledge of RAN aspects of 5G/NR and/or LTE (architecture, protocols, scheduling, radio performance)
  • System, design or test experience from 5G and/or LTE (e.g., feature development, performance verification, or integration)
  • Practical experience with Baseband software (architecture or programming), and ability to read and reason about SW behavior
  • Ability to use or quickly adapt to troubleshooting and analysis tools (e.g., log/trace tools, KPI dashboards, radio performance tools)
  • Good communication skills in English, with the ability to explain complex findings to different stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and troubleshoot Baseband software issues at RAN level, using logs, traces, KPIs, and radio performance data
  • Take a holistic view of problems, considering radio conditions, network configuration, and feature combinations
  • Work closely with system designers and developers to identify root causes and define robust fixes or design improvements
  • Contribute to systemization and design of new and existing 5G/NR and LTE features from a performance and robustness perspective
  • Drive or support automation and data analytics to improve how we detect, analyze, and prevent issues
  • Collaborate with customer teams to reproduce and resolve network problems, sometimes under time pressure and high visibility
  • Document findings and share best practices, methods, and tools across the organization
