About The Position

This job consists of daily care and proper upkeep of animals and their facilities. The position is Non-Exempt, Hourly and requires reporting to the work location by the scheduled time. The role involves maintaining a clean, professional appearance and performing daily routines as scheduled. It also includes maintaining appropriate animal records and assisting with animal treatments and movements as directed. Communication with staff, volunteers, and guests should be conducted in a helpful and patient manner. Participation in public presentations, with or without animals, is expected. Any problems with animals and exhibits should be communicated to the Senior Biologist/Curators. Moody Gardens call out procedures must be followed, along with communicating with the team when unable to come to work. Observation and maintenance of assigned areas, and reporting supply needs to Senior Biologist/Curators are also key responsibilities. The role requires availability to work as scheduled, organization, self-motivation, and good observation skills.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.
Must be organized, self-motivated, with a desire to see projects through to completion.
Must be able to swim and, if required in work area, be willing to obtain dive certification.
Must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation.
Must have a strong desire to work with animals and provide them with the best care available.
Must have good observation skills.
Must work with other employees, volunteers and the public in a polite, patient and professional manner.
Must be willing to work any day of the week including weekends and holidays.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the handling and care of animals preferred.

Responsibilities

Report supply needs to Senior Biologist / Curators.
