About The Position

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees. This position is a temporary casual hire position and offers no benefits, with hours not to exceed 13 hours per week. Continuous recruitment. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four year college or university
  • One (1) year experience in choreographing and teaching jazz and other contemporary styles to students high school age or older.
  • or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Ability to work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and /or holiday hours as directed.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certification by the employment start date.
  • Computer, cell phone, and social media technology competency.

Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of the Marching Band Director, the Rainbow Dance Advisor prepares the Rainbow Dancers for performances at UHM athletic events as requested, including but not limited to: providing choreography and teaching routines; acquiring appropriate costuming; providing guidance and leadership to team members.
  • Organizes and participates in rehearsals and performances.
  • Teach necessary skills from the basic fundamentals to the techniques of performance.
  • Plans and coordinates annual auditions.
  • Plans and coordinates mainland travel.
  • Provides timely communication to Marching Band Director, such as monthly activity calendars and attendance records.
  • Maintains conditioning program throughout the spring through basketball and/or other appearances.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for the academic progress and eligibility status of dancers.
  • Promotes and maintains an environment where the physical, mental, social and academic well-being of all participants are a priority.
  • Promotes and fosters a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members.
  • Responsible for the conduct of team members both on and off the field/court.
  • Plans fundraising activities and keep appropriate records.
  • Responsible for performing the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act.
  • Maintains collaborative working relationships with staff, administrators and coaches in the department, other college offices, and members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the Rainbow Dance Program and Athletics Department.
  • Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
  • Knows, recognizes, and complies with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawai‘i and its employees, and the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and of the affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future.
  • Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others, have occurred or will occur.
