About The Position

The Railcar Maintenance Technician performs repairs, welding, fabrication, and general maintenance on freight railcars. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork. Technicians must be available for emergency call-outs as part of a 24/7 emergency response operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The work involves frequent travel, changing job assignments, outdoor work in varying weather conditions, and flexibility to work extended hours when needed.

Requirements

• Welding and fabrication experience.
• AWS certification.
• Knowledge of freight car components, the AAR Field Manual, Blue Flag Law, and FRA safety standards.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a professional work ethic.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, E-Rail Safe, and CSX On-Track Safety.
• Availability for on-call emergency response, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to travel frequently and work changing job assignments.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, walk on uneven surfaces, bend, lift, and carry.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds; heavier items require assistance.
• Flexibility to work extended hours when needed.

Responsibilities

• Repair, maintain, weld, and fabricate railcar components to meet safety and quality requirements.
• Inspect and prepare work vehicles, tools, and materials before and after assignments.
• Participate in job briefings and follow established safety procedures.
• Work with team members to complete assignments efficiently and safely.
• Maintain professional communication with customers and coworkers.
• Clean work areas, organize equipment, and restock supplies after jobs.
• Complete required reports and documentation accurately and on time.
• Follow all applicable workplace policies and safety standards.
