About The Position

The Railcar Maintenance Technician performs repairs, welding, fabrication, and general maintenance on freight railcars. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork. The technician works on changing assignments, travels frequently, and performs outdoor work in varying weather conditions. The position is part of a 24/7 emergency response operation and requires on-call availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as flexibility to work extended hours when needed.

Requirements

Welding and fabrication experience; AWS certification is required.
Knowledge of freight car components, the AAR Field Manual, Blue Flag Law, and FRA safety standards.
Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a professional work ethic.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, E-Rail Safe, and CSX On-Track Safety.
Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds; heavier items require assistance.

Responsibilities

Repair, maintain, weld, and fabricate railcar components to meet safety and quality requirements.
Inspect and prepare work vehicles, tools, and materials before and after assignments.
Participate in job briefings and follow established safety procedures.
Work with team members to complete assignments efficiently and safely.
Maintain professional communication with customers and coworkers.
Clean work areas, organize equipment, and restock supplies after jobs.
Complete required reports and documentation accurately and on time.
Follow all applicable workplace policies and safety standards.
